The Robert Maher Memorial Scholarship Award


Citzens for Nuclear Technology Awareness (CNTA) is pleased to announce that James Weathers is the recipient of the second annual Robert Maher Memorial Scholarship. As the winner of the 2005 Maher Scholarship, Mr. Weathers was presented a $5,000 award by Mr. Bob Pedde, president of Washington Savannah River Company (WSRC), at the CNTA's 14th Annual Edward Teller Lecture and Banquet on October 26, 2005.

Mr. Weathers is a Georgia Institute of Technology junior who is majoring in Nuclear & Radiological Engineering. A native of Bowman SC, James has had work assignments with the Southern Nuclear Operating Company, the I. E. Hatch Nuclear Power Plant (near Baxley GA), and last summer at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in their fleet support group. Since 2003, James has been the student representative and secretary for the Southeast Universities Nuclear Reactors Institute for Science and Education (SUNRISE) Consortium.

James feels strongly in nuclear power as an energy source and thinks that energy will play an increasing role of importance in the future. CNTA wishes James much luck in his future endeavors; he is well on his way to a brilliant career.

The purpose of the Maher Scholarship is to provide an annual scholarship to a student who has demonstrated outstanding college level academic achievement in nuclear science/engineering.
